VMware and Hyper-V backup
VMware and Hyper-V backup, kept in Europe
Your whole operation runs inside virtual machines. Mindtime backs them up agentless through native APIs, stores them immutably in the Netherlands and Germany, and starts them straight from backup when you need them.
In short
What is VM backup?
VM backup copies your virtual machines off the host they run on, so a hardware failure, ransomware or a mistake doesn't take out production and backup at once. Mindtime connects to VMware vSphere, Hyper-V and other hypervisors through native APIs and keeps immutable copies in Dutch and German data centres.
- What we back up
- VMware vSphere and ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, Proxmox VE, Linux KVM and oVirt, Nutanix AHV, Citrix XenServer
- How
- Agentless via native APIs, with changed block tracking
- Where it is stored
- ISO 27001 certified Tier III data centres in the Netherlands and Germany
- How you restore
- A full VM, single files or application items, or boot the VM straight from backup
The risk
One failure can take down everything
Most businesses find the gaps in their VM backup the moment they need to restore. These are the problems we hear most.
Same host
Backup on the same server
If the backup runs on the same host as the VMs and that host fails, you lose both.
Licensing
VMware is changing
After Broadcom's 2024 licensing changes, many European companies moved to Proxmox, and their old backup tool didn't move with them.
Downtime
Restores that take hours
Without instant recovery, getting a VM back can take longer than the business can wait.
What's covered
One solution, every major hypervisor
Run VMware, Hyper-V and Proxmox side by side? All of them are managed from one platform under one backup policy.
- VMware vSphere / ESXiAgentless via VADP, changed block trackingSupported
- Microsoft Hyper-VAgentless via VSS and RCTSupported
- Proxmox VEAgentless snapshotsSupported
- Linux KVM / oVirtAgent-based and agentlessSupported
- Nutanix AHVAgentlessSupported

What's included
How Mindtime protects it
Standard with every Mindtime backup, on top of the 3-2-1-1-0 rule and immutable storage in the Netherlands and Germany.
Agentless backup
Mindtime connects to your hypervisor through native APIs. Nothing to install on each VM and no performance overhead.
Changed block tracking
After the first full backup only changed blocks are sent, so backup windows and network load stay small.
Instant VM recovery
Start a VM directly from the backup, in the cloud or on-premises, while the full restore runs in the background.
Immutable backups
Backups attackers can't touch: they can't be encrypted, changed or deleted.
Application-aware
VSS and application-aware quiescing capture SQL Server, Exchange and Active Directory in a consistent state.
One console
Manage policies, watch jobs, start restores and create compliance reports for every hypervisor in one place.
How it works
Up and running in three steps
No rip-and-replace and no long project. Our team helps you at every step.
- 01
Connect your hypervisor
We connect with read-only API credentials. No agents, no downtime and no changes to production. Setup takes under an hour.
- 02
Define your backup policy
Set retention and frequency per VM or policy group. Our team helps you match them to your recovery targets and compliance duties.
- 03
Restore whenever you need it
Restore a full VM, files or application items from any recovery point, through the web portal or with our support team.
FAQ
Common questions
Do you support VMware after the Broadcom licensing changes?
Yes. We support VMware vSphere and ESXi environments of all sizes, including free ESXi licences, whether you stay on VMware or move away.
What if I need to restore a VM at 2am?
You can restore from the self-service web portal at any time. For complex recoveries our support team helps, and you speak to someone who knows your environment.
Can you handle a mix of hypervisors?
Yes. Many customers run VMware, Hyper-V and Proxmox side by side. We manage all of them from one platform under one backup policy framework.
Is this GDPR compliant if we have customers in Germany?
Yes. All data is stored in our data centres in the Netherlands and Germany. We provide a Data Processing Agreement, and can keep data in German data centres only on request.
